Silk Screen Prints
about the work
Joy's talents include silk-screen printing, bronze casting, etching, oils and watercolours. Since acquiring her own studio in 2001, Joy's work has grown in scale where she takes delight in mixing her own oil paints and stretching her own canvases – it all helps to get familiar with the materials and dealing with pure colour is a revelation.
the artist
Joy Godfrey
Originally from Cheshire, Joy moved to Yorkshire and studied at Bradford Art College during the mid-70's. There she became obsessed with the process of silk-screen printing, with bronze casting there after.
From 1983-93 Joy worked part-time for Howard Smith, then Caroline Krzesinska, both in turn Keepers of Exhibitions at Bradford Art Galleries and Museums – a great experience in bringing Joy closer to other exhibiting artists and the organisers themselves.
Joy's work has been accepted at major mixed exhibitions including the Northern Young Contemporaries, Whitworth Art Gallery (Manchester), Industrial Museum (Bradford), Leeds City Museum and Leeds Art Fairs.
Joy is a member of Ilkley Arts and her work is in the collections of BUPA, Empire Stores, Provident Financial, major banks and building societies, The Caring Arts at St. Luke’s Hospital, and numerous private collections.
