As an avid collector of art and objects I am fascinated by how we choose to group and display these collected pieces.

Much as a still life painter gathers objects to form a composition, we can also choose to place objects and images together that compliment or contrast with one another or that add to a narrative.

The aim of this exhibition is to explore the choices we make when we hang and arrange art and objects in our living spaces. 

It will consider contemporary still life paintings alongside other two dimensional and mixed media work and explore how these pieces are enhanced and reflected through three dimensional objects shifting the focus between themes or echoed colours, materials and textures.

We will be inviting a group of artists and makers whose work we would like to see in small grouped collections, some of whom will have exhibited in the gallery before and some who are new to us. The exhibition will evolve throughout its run as different connections are made between pieces and rearranged to reflect various elements of the works to keep the exhibition fresh and exciting

 

Still life is art that represents inanimate objects like fruit, cut flowers, utensils, and other everyday items. These objects can be natural or manmade. The composition can be simple with just one or two objects featured or more complex, with a variety of different items.

Like a still life painting some objects just seem to shine when sitting next to one another.
